October 21, 2009 witnessed a third successful principal video conference via ooVoo in one of the 11 teams of the Global Partnership Project (GPP) under the leadership of International School Connection (ISC). This team is made up of Second Foreign Languages School of Nanshan (SFLSN) from Shenzhen China, Independent Day School from Florida America and Gustav Versa Middle from Stockholm Sweden

The three principals shared some basic information about their schools such as the size, curriculum design, the number of students, the ratio of teachers to staff members and the scope of principal's responsibility. They also discussed about school budget, fundraising and education for students with special needs. They all spoke highly of the good relationship between the three schools and all the projects going on between students as well as teachers involved in the GPP project. It is unanimously agreed by the three principals that a further support should be given to this cross-continent school connection. Finally they decided to meet on ooVoo on December 9.

Ann, an assistant principal from SFLSN, had this video conference in the school newly-completed, well-equipped international conference room. Mr Huadong Pan, tech specialist of Nanshan School District, Vice Director of District Information Center and Chairperson of Nanshan GPP Project, was invited to watch this principal conference. Huadong and Mark Xing, Coordinator of Nanshan GPP Project, decided to organize all Nanshan GPP participants (22 schools in total) to observe an on-the-spot three-continent student video conference pertaining to "water" at SFLSN on November 24 in order to facilitate the success of the global partnership project.

China Quake: Donation in our school

Submitted by: Mark Xing, Teacher Nanshan Second Foreign Languages School Shenzhen

Though a bit far from the epicenter, all the students and teachers from Nanshan 2nd Foreign Languages School Shenzhen showed their deep concern and great care for those people, especially the students and teachers who are stranded and still waiting to be saved.  Donation was held on the campus this morning for the people in those earthquake stricken areas.  All the students and teachers did all they could to help those people in great need.  The money donated by students and teachers in this school is up to 120,000 RMB yuan.  We pray for those people, hoping the death toll stops rising and people there are able to get back to normal as soon as possible.

Yihan Fan's Trip to the Sun

I arrived very early on the 9th, due to a flight delay to Orlando, Florida USA.  At 3 in the morning, when we started to land, the beautiful lights of all colors enthralled me, and all the beautiful colors, as I see, seemed to be a great omen for my wonderful stay.

It was indeed a wonderful trip, and the 11 days I was in the US were fully packed with good experiences that mean a lot to me.  I was the guest of Mr. Robert Hartley, principal of Lakeland-Highlands Middle School in Polk County Florida.  Mr. and Mrs. Hartley attended the ISC Summit in Beijing, at our school Beijing 101 Middle School.  This writing might seem very long, but judging from the Hartley family’s wonderful arrangements and all that I have experienced, the story could have been lengthened way more than what I have here.

IDS - The Great Journey Series – China Trip

By Morgan Mills, Independent Day School, Grade 8

Last October I had the opportunity to visit Beijing, China for the ISC Youth Summit. While there, in addition to the Summit and shadowing students at Beijing 101 Middle School, I also learned about the culture firsthand. During one of the excursions, I visited the “Temple of Heaven,” which was a beautifully clean park, once known as a holy ground.
